March 8, 2021 - Contemporary Issues Topic: Medical decisions at the end of life Contemporary Issues continues our Lent study of death and dying. On March 8, we welcome palliative care physician Dr. Rebecca Lachenmaier, medical director at UnityPoint Hospice. She will talk to us about the medical aspect of the dying process. What decisions can we make now while we're healthy that will make the job easier for the hospice medical director and our family caregivers?
Dr. Lachemaier recommends two forms: the combined Living Will and Medical Power of Attorney from the Iowa State Bar Association and Five Wishes.

Contemporary Issues will hear from Chaplain Ruby at Unity Point Hospice. Ruby supports hospice patients and their families. She will talk about what is important to people at the end of their lives, and what we can do now to set our families up for a healthy grieving process.
