Partner Family relationships
Everyone has the opportunity to partner with a San Isidro resident or family. "To partner" means writing a letter to a Salvadorian family and sharing some of the things your family in the USA does and what your life is like. (Think of it as an old fashioned pen-pal letter exchange.) The lives we live are so vastly different that our every day tasks and lifestyles are so interesting to the Salvarodians, and likewise vice versa for theirs to us!
When we first started the partner family letter exchange, we never expected to get many replies as most residents do not write or read well. We were very wrong! Since our first letter was sent, every Salvadorian household has found a way to reply which that has allowed many beautiful relationships to develop between our congregation and 53 families in a small, rural community in El Salvador.
Since government's mail service is highly undependable in the rural parts of El Salvador, all our letters are hand delivered by a delegation travling to the area. Through the larger Socios de Cristo group and the Our Sister Parish ministry, we are able to optimize letter exchanges by working with other local churches who have delgations travelling to Berlin and can serve as our mail delivery service.
