2019 Faithful Through the Years:
Russ & Mary Marshall
Mary and Russ have been active members of Covenant for 44 years. They joined the church in 1975.
They became involved in the church choir and education of the church youth immediately. Mary even co-chaired VBS while being very pregnant.
Russ and Mary are both ruling elders and have served terms on session many times. They have worked as shepherds, helping with yard work, VBS, church choir, Meals from the Heartland, delivering food to the food bank each month, sewing, cleaning and being available to help families in Anawim housing.
Mary was a clerk of session for twelve years. She was the treasurer of the Covenant Presbyterian Women’s group. She also facilitated lessons in the group’s Bible studies. She continues helping with all CPW fundraisers and activities. She is readily available for any education opportunities and helps at VBS each year. She is currently the chair of the Music and Worship Committee and very involved in all aspects of Covenant’s ministry.
Russ was very active in the beginning of the church Shepherds, setting up flocks, to keep the small church feel to a quickly growing congregation. Russ has always been involved in technology additions to Covenant. His expertise has been crucial in adding Wi-Fi, networks and current technology. He is on the properties committee and involvement and outreach. Russ is always willing to help in any area of Covenant’s ministry and really enjoys working with the kids during VBS.
All three of Mary and Russ’s boys earned their Eagle Scout badges through projects that helped Covenant. Scott and Greg did landscaping projects and Bill had scouts help him with setting up the church database in Covenant’s basement.
Mary and Russ have been married for 53 years! Covenant ministries has been a crucial part of their family’s life for more than 44 years. They are role models as they have a personal commitment to Christ, and exhibit a strong work ethic. They are the first to greet new visitors and their warmth is so welcoming as they represent Covenant Presbyterian Church.
