Welcome to Covenant Presbyterian
Church of West Des Moines, located at the intersection of 28th
Street and Ashworth Road! Covenant is a
congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and has been in ministry since
1957, celebrating its 50th year of ministry in 2007. We offer
opportunities for people of all ages to grow in their faith, hope and
discipleship. Our Sunday worship service
is one marked by Christian tradition yet incorporating the advantages of modern
technology newly installed in 2011. Our
Wednesday evening program includes a weekly home-cooked meal followed by
classes and activities for adults, youth and children.
Knowing faith is more than what is
professed, but also what is practiced, our mission as a community of faith is one
noted for the encouragement and the challenge to our members, visitors and
friends about their discipleship to Jesus Christ. As a congregation we support with hands-on
work the Eddie Davis Center, Cross Ministries, Des Moines Area Religious
Council, Habitat for Humanity, Our Sister Parish—El Salvador, Drake University
Head Start, West Des Moines Human Services, Meals from the Heartland, a twice
annual Blood Drive, Hope Ministries and the mission of the Presbytery of Des
Moines. Presbyterian Women, children’s Sunday
School classes and Vacation Bible School also accept the mission challenge at
bringing forth the peace and understanding revealed through Christ. As
individuals, we are encouraged also to discover and undertake hands-on
discipleship in order to claim the faith under which we live.
Our music ministry under the
direction of our Director of Music Ministries includes the Chancel Choir,
Crescendo Bell Choir, Covenant Youth Choir and Youth Desk Bell Choir. Our education ministry under the direction of
our Christian Education Director includes faith development events for adults,
youth, children and toddlers with Sunday morning classes traditionally
structured and Wednesday evening classes more informally executed. For children this means on Wednesday evenings
they can take a break from their many activities and experience a more relaxed
model for learning, activity, and craft work!
Small group ministries in the church
include a long list of activities in which members and friends can explore,
study, work and enjoy together the fellowship of faith found at Covenant
Church. Covenant’s professional staff is
a group of courteous and dedicated individuals working hard to support the
congregation and its call to discipleship.
We hope you can visit Covenant Church and discover for yourself the Covenant Challenge----to grow and equip
people for no other purpose than discipleship to Christ Jesus.
